So, the press is always quick to point out their views of what a band sounds like and who they feel are artist’s influences. So why don't you tell me how you describe your sound and what three artists have influenced you the most. Of course I don’t tell you anything new if I say this is a really difficult first question. But I'll try my best. As I write all the songs myself either on my guitar or on the piano, I'd say most of the songs start out as folk, blues or maybe pop songs. So no matter what we do with these songs later on, a bit of that is always in them. Then it depends on what mood we are in when we first play the songs together. There's always a lot of rock and pop floating around in our rehearsal room. I'd say there's sometimes a bit of soul in my voice and then there's the electronical gadgets we like to use, which sometimes in the end add a bit of blips and beeps. Artists that have influenced me the most... first of all there's Gomez. A band I love not only for their brilliant song writing, their amazing abilities to mix musical styles and their great voices, but also for just doing what they want to. Without thinking about record sales, trends, style or coolness. Second would be the Beatles. I used to play this game with my dad when he drove me to kindergarten. He had a Beatles tape in the car and I always tried to guess who was singing. I got so much on his nerves, that he recorded all the albums onto tapes so I could listen to them for the rest of my life. And I still do. And I can tell who's singing what now! Third place gets a bit difficult now. Of course there are so many. But I think right now (and this can change from minute to minute) I'd go for Prince. My sister used to listen to him all the time (while I was crazy about Guns'n'Roses). It took me a while to discover but I mean the man's a genius! OK some of his stuff is sometimes a bit hard to listen to, but what shall I say, he's just crazy!
Whether it is from your live show or record, what do you hope folks walk away with after hearing you? Wow, I mean, nothing would be greater than to make them feel they've discovered something new, or special, that makes their hearts beat faster and want to get more. But I'd say a little "oh that was nice" wouldn't be so bad too.
What movie has inspired you more than any other? I really have to say I'm more inspired by reading than going to the movies. But I'd say if we'd talk about for example what inspired me to ever start writing music I’d go for "Alice’s Restaurant" with Arlo Guthrie. That's where I wanted to be when I was about 12. And I always wanted a wedding like that. The last Movie that somehow inspired me was "Lovesong for Bobby Long". I really have to go and get that soundtrack.
Where do you see music in ten years and how do you play a role in that? I have absolutely no idea where music will be in ten years. I will probably will be sitting somewhere with my guitar singing about the good old days and constantly using my ear plugs if someone turns on the radio. Let’s hope there will be a great big crash in the major industry. Back to the roots baby.
If you could go back in history to whiteness any event, what would that event be and why? One of the festivals in the 70s wouldn't be so bad. Ilse of white maybe. But then I'd probably be scared by all the naked people... so I'd say a Beatles recording session at Abbey Road. I mean how on earth did they make these amazing records. Oh, and then I'd sneak some of the old machines out of there.
What one word sums up the band? Soup.
Since the World Cup is being held throughout Germany, we have to know…who is going to win? God, do you know what hustle is made around here because of the f...... world cup? And then no one will actually be inside a stadium to watch because it’s so difficult to get a ticket...Anyway, I'd love for Ireland to win (are they playing at all?) but I'd tip on maybe Portugal.
And the last, most important question…Why does Germany love David Hasselhoff? This is so hilarious! I love that somehow all the world seems to think that David Hasselhoff is loved so much in Germany. I mean is he? I have no idea. But this is not the first time I've been asked this question. So, counter-question: Why does the USA love Arnold Schwarzenegger?
