Mr. Brown
By erik schultz
The press is always quick to point out their views of what a band sounds like and who they feel are artists influences. So why don‘t you tell me how you describe your sound and what three artists have influenced you the most.
Daniel: I think we are at a point where we sound like Mr Brown. But perhaps the comparison with the young Blur fits. In the beginning of my career I was influenced by Oasis. I still like Noel’s song writing very much. Then the influence by the Strokes grew bigger. At the moment I adore Bowie.

Carl: We call it Beatrock. Its loud, its fast, its oldschool and its good.

Whether it is from your live show or record, what do you hope folks walk away with after hearing you?
Daniel: I hope they will remember some of our hook lines and probably our uniform.

Carl: That they have heared the most unbelievable rock show in years.

What movie has inspired you more than any other?
Daniel: This is High Fidelity for sure. It’s based on the novel by Nick Hornby. Every time I saw the film I was inspired to write a new song. And the soundtrack kicks fucking ass.

Carl: Blues Brothers.

Where do you see music in ten years and how do you play a role in that?
Daniel: I believe that music as well as nearly everything else runs in circles. Probably there will be a seventies-revival again. Or techno? Our role in this time will be the following. As today we’ll try to hold up high real music with real feelings.

Carl: I think its time for some new stuff now that everything From the 60s to the 90s has been revived, though honestly you can not reinvent music. Music is here to entertain and music is a mirror of the generation its desires, hopes and problems. Since I dont know how the world is going to be in 10 years without Bush as a American President for example. I hope a lot better than it is now, but I‘ll still be making music, thats for sure.

If you could go back in history to whiteness any event, what would that event be and why?
Daniel: I would go back to the middle-ages. I wanted to be a knight since I was young. I like the idea to fight for honor and a pretty princess.

Carl: The live recording of Little Richard in the Okey Club in Hollywood, because this is the most amazing rock and roll recording ever made by mankind.

What one word sums up the band?
Daniel: Carls says we are loud. I agree with that.

Carl: Yes, we are.

Since the World Cup is being held through out Germany, we have to know; who is going to win?
Daniel: I’m afraid we won’t win. But as long as Brazil does not win I’m ok with that. It’s a mess that in Germany big companies own nearly all the tickets because they sponsored the World Cup. I would like to see a match but I can’t by a ticket.

Carl: I personally dislike soccer, because it‘s a sissy-like-game, but when you ask me I think England will win.

And the last, most important question; why does Germany love David Hasselhoff?
Daniel: Germans like bad music. Looking For Freedom was a really big hit over here. I liked it too when I was a teenager. Then there was Baywatch. When we were younger we adored the godfather of all lifeguards. He was cool and the girls followed him. Carl still likes David. He has every episode of Knight Rider.

Carl: Yes, I do. Man, it\'s the hairstyle. The hairstyle!
